She's The Girl

She's the girl they call the new girl
You know her

Just transferred from the prep school over the hill
You know her

Not your everyday suburban public high school student
But you know her

She's the girl that killed all those people last year.

Every boy she passes forgets his own locker combination
Did you see her?

Eyes like Sunday morning and a smile that speaks only of red wine
Have you ever seen anything like her?

Brown hair soft as rainwater and a voice for bedtime stories
I dare you to go over there and talk to her.

Brown hair soft as rainwater
And a mind allegedly capable of the serial murder of nineteen different women across
four different counties of Rhode Island.

Her trail of horror was so bewildering, it was the subject of a special two-hour episode of HBO's "Autopsy"
You've been thinking about her

America's youngest serial killer, her 16-year-old face was on the cover of Time with the caption, "Who's to blame?"
You had a dream about her

Despite a signed confession, her textile magnate father purchased the best legal defense team money could buy and she managed to be acquitted of all charges and sue the state for inhumane treatment during her incarceration
You wrote her name on the back of your Trapper Keeper

When asked during her interrogation why she only murdered women she replied, "Because men are bigger than me"
Oh my God! She sits three desks away from you in homeroom!

The other girls tease her in the locker room for having undeveloped breasts and for being a killer
Does she even know you're alive?

She sits all alone at lunchtime because everyone thinks she's just a stuck up little rich girl who once took the entirety of a Memorial Day weekend to slowly bleed a woman until her skin bore the texture of a prune
Why would she ever like a boy like you?

She never gets invited to parties. The cool kids think she's nerdy and the nerdy kids think she's weird. And everyone remembers what was written on the note found stuffed inside the chest cavity of that toll booth operator's disembodied torso
Maybe you could buy some cooler clothes

She'd throw herself a birthday party, but no one knows what gift to buy for the girl that killed all those people last year
Oh fuck. I think she just smiled at you.

Expert psychiatric witnesses stated under oath, "She will kill again"
You long for her

A paper published jointly by top ethicists declared her crimes the very essence of unconscionable evil, quote: "She will kill again"
You moan for her

The husbands of her victims took out an ad in the Sunday paper declaring, "If you free her we will kill her, before she kills again"
You can't eat can't sleep can't think can't take another breath until you tell her how you feel about her

She herself on the day she was arrested warned her interrogating officer, "For the safety of the women of the State of Rhode Island, put me in prison until I am dead. If I am freed I promise you today that I will kill again."
Go on. Ask her to the Sophomore-Junior Spring Fling Formal.

"I want to kill the happiest woman in America," she once told a criminologist
You check your tuxedo and knock on her door

"I've never known anyone who was happy. And I bet there's no better time to die than when you think you could never be happier," she once told a corrections officer on suicide watch duty
She opens the door and you look at her dress and she giggles when you gasp

"The women I killed I could tell when they died, they were no happier with life than I was," she once told a reporter for Spin
You pin her corsage atop her bosom and she looks in your eyes and in their reflection she sees a girl who is smiling

"There can't be a better time for your life to end than when you want to go on living forever," she once wrote in the last page of her diary.
She runs to her bathroom and she opens her wrists and sleeps with the knowledge of a job well done

And when you grow up you're going to start a rock n' roll band
And you're going to write a song for her that goes like this:
"She's the girl that killed all those people last year
And got away with it
She's so pretty
How can she go to my high school?"
